The CAT980G is built to a scale of 1/24 so that it could be displayed with 1/24 or 1/25 scale cars and trucks.
Some projects are particularly challenging when no drawings of the subject are available. Such was the case with the CAT980G. In these cases it is necessary to make your own. A sales brochure provided the basic dimensions to work with, and I was able to get drawings of various components, (fuel tanks, axles, buckets etc ).
These drawings did not contain any dimensions, so measurements had to be taken off the actual machine, and scale drawings were then produced.
Although strictly a display model, it is articulated and the bucket can be manually lifted and tipped. As the model sits quite high on it wheels, it was necessary show a very detailed undercarriage.
The operators cab displays a detailed interior and is made from lexan, a form of plexiglass was lends itself well to model work.
